
Electrical Drafter/Designer
We are currently seeking an Electrical Designer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing electrical building services, preparing drawings and specifications, and coordinating with other disciplines to deliver projects on time and within budget. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, from small renovations to large-scale developments.
Responsibilities
- Designing building systems in accordance with office standards, building codes, electrical codes and other applicable standards.
- Preparing drawings, specifications, and reports necessary to deliver a project.
- Developing lighting layouts and coordinating with other disciplines.
- Performing electrical load calculations for base building projects.
- Developing power distribution layouts and sizing, as well as layouts of electrical rooms.
- Liaising with all project consultants to coordinate design requirements with all disciplines and supervise drawings between other disciplines.
- Checking layouts of electrical services for interferences with other components of the building such as structure, ceilings, millwork, etc.
- Familiarizing yourself with structural, architectural, and mechanical models to appreciate space limitations and interferences.
- Designing electrical building systems directly in Revit/CAD, adhering to company BIM/CAD standards.
- Working with clash/coordination reports, assisting with model audits and overall health of the model.
- Liaising with suppliers and/or manufacturers for design support, equipment and component selection.
- Assisting with the distribution of work between the internal design team and attending project/technical meetings where required.
- Assisting in construction administration by reviewing equipment shop drawings and conducting site visits, site reviews and preparing change notices, site instructions, etc.
- Completing any other tasks assigned by Principals or Project Managers required to assist in the completion of projects.
Qualifications
- A diploma or degree from an electrical building services/engineering program.
- Two or more years of direct industry experience in the field of electrical building services.
- A strong desire for advancement and professional development.
- Proficiency in working with Autodesk AutoCAD & Autodesk Revit, with exposure to electrical layouts and systems.
- Proficiency in working with all Microsoft Office suites, specifically Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with systems such as electrical distribution, fire alarm, lighting, security, communication and/or audio-visual systems are preferred asset.
- Familiarity with lighting calculations and ability to perform such calculations.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- Highly innovative and motivated with an attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate effectively with both internal and external clients.
- Able to work independently, as well as contribute to the team.
